What to choose between Desktop, Laptop and Netbook

Going with modern trends, most people tend to buy laptop instead of desktop, even if their needs are not laptop specific. It would be a wise, if one decides to choose as per the basic requirements the person wants to purchase a laptop or a desktop.

When to buy a laptop? – when the essence is portability

The laptop has the only one and great advantage over desktop, that is, its portability. You should buy a laptop when there is need for

• carrying computer at home and office
• having immediate access of your applications anywhere
• moving computer frequently

Less weight and size? – have disadvantages also

Laptops of course have advantages of their small size and less wight as compare to desktop. It can be kept anywhere and can be easily handled. But in fact, it inherently have other disadvantages:

• To make laptop of small size and less weight, special components are used, which are more expensive. Hence more costlier.
• Again, it makes costlier and as well as difficult to upgrade or expand.
• It is more prone to theft.
• Small size is not always good, when keys are very near and keyboard is also attached with the screen. That make less comfortable to work.

Battery backup is also a positive part, but if it is really required.

Why to buy a desktop?

• It is much cheaper as compare to laptop of same features.
• Great features at low cost make desktop more powerful in performance.
• It is easy to upgrade or replace or expand, and also cheaper.
• Desktops are more comfortable to work with as desktop screen is at eye level and keyboard can be placed away from screen at a distance comfortable.

What is a Netbook?

• It is a kind of mini laptop. It is portable. It is of small size and less weight as compared to a laptop.
• It can run only limited applications and hence its purpose is limited for general computing  and to access web based applications.
• Its computing power is low.
• Many features like optical drive is not there.
• It is less expensive as compared to a laptop or a desktop.

And when to buy Netbook?

Because it is portable and least expensive among all the three, it can be purchased when there is no high computing work needs to be done, when one just need a computer for basic applications like to sending email, working on office applications, listening music and watching videos (using pen drive, as optical drive is not there).

Conclusion:

IT would be a wiser choise to buy a desktop rather than a laptop when there is no need of portability.
