Google is redesigning it's search page. It seems more like Bing. This new design use more bright colors and Ajax. A 10+ year experienced giant Google is looking young.

Today I stumbled upon a blog-post about new look of Google search. Google is redesigning it’s search page, with some Ajaxy effect.

The new looks use more bright colors, which are really eye catching.This new design looks more like a copy edit+paste of Bing. Now Google has removed the underline from the site links same like Bing. Bing on left side of search results shows “All results” where as Google now showing “Everything”.

It seems that Google really feared by the popularity of Bing. As Bing has got very good market share and ballmer is fueling more and more money to make it a hit. Let see who ever wins the real winner will be users as we will get more relevant results and experience.

To see how is the new Google like, you need to enable a cookies. You can do the following thing.
- Start the web browser and open Google.com
- Type the following java-script code and hit enter and now if you search with Google you will see a brand new Google look.

javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueXfZG;path=/; domain=.google.com");

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-2784351527141020";
/* 468x60, created 6/22/09 */
Now we post the second part, that something which can change our way of communication…

What went unnoticed in Google Wave?

The basic of Google wave – it is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. It is not just an IM , nor just an email and neither just an online word application. It is an integrated mixture of all and a step ahead.

Consider email :

We know it doesn’t support IM. What else? Any conversation and its replies create a big mail chain, difficult to track. The chain sometimes even brake into branches. If just a single email can keep track of all replies, it makes easy to manage. Google Wave creates a single wave which can be replied within or edited or whatever, no longer need to search for a mail in clumsy inbox.

Consider IM :

People communicating in IM need to be online. The conversation can be saved, but it has many limitations. It doesn’t allow for any further communication once a session is closed. Attachment cannot be saved within the saved conversation itself. Google here adds a cool feature of private reply. Instead of Opening a new session one can send a reply to only limited people in the same communicating wave.

Consider Word and other documents:

You cannot share, collaborate a document unless it is an online app for collaborative purpose. Besides, one cannot communicate with other.

Consider Share point or OneNote:

SharePoint is not much interactive, the way we want to freely manage the documents or conversation. And OneNote doesn’t allow the documents to be shared.

Besides, non of them provide the feature of adding a gadgets or installation, which makes it more interesting to work. As it is open source, one can create one’s own gadgets or updated features to be integrated.

Other cool features:

One can Follow or Unfollow a wave depending on his likings or importance.

Google allows to simply drag drop pictures, videos and documents to be shared into wave. It also provide menu to display a nice slide show for the pictures in wave.

We can link one wave to another and hence easily keep together the similar waves.

What more?

It supports real time communication, which may be liked or not depending on individual.

Similarly another popularity of feature to edit any sent response from anyone, depends on individual likings. But is also allow to playback a wave to see what was updated/edited and when.

And as Wave is not fully rolled out, there are many good updates expected to be coming:

One may able to give permission to edit or not to edit his response. It may allow to post comments on blog.

Public wave address will be created so that anyone can create, access and contribute to a public wave.

Robots are also likely to be added to act like artificial human and take automated responses like deleting a response, replying etc.

Its uses may vary widely. Any single topic for establishing a session can result in wave.

Like..

Mostly for business purposes for email conversation, project discussion, meetings etc.

One can create a single wave for adding and/or sharing all the photos.

One can create public wave :

to broadcast any information with all

To advertise

Wave may seem to be currently limited but it may slowly transition the way of our communication.

When Google announced about Google wave, there were a lot crazy talks around, about this new Google tool. As has always been about Google products, it was expected to be somewhat more out of one’s expectations. Many expected it to change the way of their communication as Twitter or Facebook has done. Everyone was excited to get an invite and explore it more but all that feeling got dull when one got an actual invite.

Why it is not appealing me ?

Google wave is currently in preview stage and not fully released. It is not fully developed and lack many features and there are some bugs even.

As the case may be with most of us, we don’t have many friends added in the account. That limits our use. Besides, it prevents much hands on experience.

Its looks are very similar to that of an outlook or a Gmail application, that doesn’t sound exciting. It gives you a feel like doing a routine task of checking mails. And that is true. Google wave is designed to give more advantages for business tasks.

When you actually to get to work, you find it very similar to an IM conversation or like an email chain. Nothing seems to be much new here.

Slow response.

Some features, like real time messaging and editing any response, add more on to Cons rather than Pros.

This was one side of coin, read the Second part of this post

What went unoticed in first glance with Google Wave
